Product Description

This Pentek EPM-20BB carbon block filter cartridge reduces fine sediment and chlorine taste and odor in residential and commercial drinking water. It has a nominal (85%) filtration rating of 10 microns. The filter will reduce free available chlorine (FAC) at 2 parts per million (ppm) by at least 90% in up to 30,000 gallons at a flow rate of 4 gallons per minute (gpm). This cartridge is made of bonded powdered activated carbon (PAC) filter media wrapped in polyolefin with polyethylene outer netting. The nitrile butadiene rubber (Buna-N) gaskets seal the cartridge against the housing (sold separately). The cartridge has an initial pressure drop of 4 pounds per square inch (psi) at a flow rate of 4 gallons per minute (gpm), and operates over a temperature range of 40 to 180 degrees F (4.4 to 82.2 degrees C). This carbon block filter cartridge meets National Sanitation Foundation/American National Standards Institute (NSF/ANSI) standard 42 for quality assurance, and is used for purification of residential and commercial drinking water.

We've been using these filters for years because without them, our water is at times visibly muddy. They do filter well enough for washing dishes, showering, laundry, etc. ; but I still don't trust it for drinking water. Also, once the filter is full of debris it must be changed or it starts dumping dirt into your water. Even the strong smell of chlorine lets you know it's time to change it.

We added this Just Water Filter Kit for more capacity in our Stay-where-you-are system. Indeed, we considered a Berkey but could not envision enough improvement to justify the considerably higher price. Why pay for a stainless steel container good enough to last for 10 years of constant use when the most probable length of a water emergency is less than two months?

The Just Water Kit was quite easy to install on a 6-gallon food grade plastic container and lid. We used a small square plastic container originally holding dishwater soap for the unfiltered water container on top. It fit the 6-gallon container lid like a glove.

Highly recommend both products.

Culligan D-20A Drinking Water Replacement Cartridge Review

I bought this as a replacement for a D20 filter in my RO-3167. The package I got from amazon had a product sheet inside that was marked "D20" but a factory sticker on top of the plastic wrap said D20A.
It's the best activated carbon filter for multi-stage reverse osmosis (RO) systems. It's made in USA. I have been using them for at least 10 years. You need to thoroughly follow the instructions for replacing filters, sanitizing your filtration system and priming the system after filter replacement. Failure to follow all these procedures will result in unpleasant odors, sediment or carbon dust in your water. Also for RO filters, it is recommended to let water flow from filter faucet for 10-20 seconds before using water for drinking purposes.
