We have had a stand-alone ice machine for 20+ years and are addicted to it. However, ice machines must be cleaned at least once per year or the life of the machine will be shortened substantially. We have high-mineral well water so I had to clean our ice machine two or more times per year. But, our first machine lasted about 18 years.
