The Big Berkey arrived only an half hour ago and it is now sitting on my kitchen counter filtering the first batch of "waste" water. After the first batch is discarded you then can use your filtered water.

This is a fairly solid water system in that it is stainless steel. The tap is really just an inferior piece of plastic that does not look like it will stand up to constant use. We shall see.
Overall, it was easy to clean and assemble. As to the quality of the water, that, too, is still to be seen.....or tasted.

So far we are pleased with the quality of the Berkey System and the taste of the filtered water. It no longer has that strong bleach smell that we have unhappily grown accustomed to, and, knowing that we are not drinking klonopin, prozac and welbutrin makes us ecstatic ( along with all the other sordid toxins in the water ). I recommend this water filter for the very tough times ahead. It will become a necessity rather than a luxury.

We're on a well, out in the country. Lots of iron and sediment and sulfurous odor. I installed this in a GE Whole House filter housing.

Flow rate seems fine and I think it's filtering but it only took a week and a half for the sulfur odor to return. So far the GE filters have been the best.

I just "upgraded" my house to be more eco-friendly, and this product is great for saving water and money. I installed these in our bathrooms, and so far they have been great! They use a laminar flow (a lot of small streams, unlike other aerators which simply add air to the water flow), and it maintains great water pressure. The two concentric rings of nozzles on the bottom mean that there isn't a hollow cone of water, and you can still effectively clean your toothbrush in the sink. I could imagine that these would also work well in a kitchen sink if you only use it to wash dishes... it would probably take a while to fill up a pot with water though. For what I am using it for (bathroom sinks) it works perfectly! I haven't owned it long enough to have any lime buildup, but I'm sure that it will be easy to clean when that does happen.
