I have had this distiller for a little over a year now and I love it. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is that I had a problem where it would periodically quit running before the reservoir was full. Nutriteam's customer service was always very responsive when I emailed them and I felt comfortable that they were going help me solve the problem. The problem ended up going away though after I accidentally turned the distiller on while I was cleaning it (I should have unplugged it but didn't) and got a pretty good jolt of electricity. Since I don't know what caused the problem, I always have a concern that it will return and that small doubt is what kept me from giving it a perfect rating. That shock was about 6 months ago though and the distiller has worked flawlessly ever since.I use the distiller to make drinking water and also to provide "rain" water for a large poison dart frog terrarium. I can easily get 3 gallons out of the reservoir when it is full. I think the reservoir would probably hold 4 gallons when filled to the brim but it doesn't quite fill to the top so I believe it has about 3.5 gallons of water in it. I use it to make about 6 gallons a week but you could easily get more from it. I would say that if you need 3+ gallons a day it might make sense to go with a bigger distiller. If you have questions I think you could get good info from the distributor. I was impressed with how quickly they got back to me when I had a problem.
I previously had a countertop distiller that I had to fill up manually. The TC500 is so much more convenient and can produce so much more water that it is worth the extra money and it was worth the effort of hooking it up to a waterline. I try to clean the scale out once a month but it is probably more like once every 6 weeks. I change the charcoal pre-filter once every 6 months. Other than that I don't have to think about it which is a big plus. The only negative I can think of is that the drain valve and area around the drain valve get too hot to safely touch when the unit is running.
All said, I would definitely recommend this distiller to a friend.
