Normally I dont consider made in china worth 5 stars, but this product was built for long term reliable use and the craftmanship is excellent. Made in china can mean junk or precision machined parts like this one. This is the right construction material (stainless steel) quartz sleeve, (replacable easy to find bulb -- keep in mind it must be done yearly because inexpensive (<$100) stainless steel UV filters are designed to last years, not just one year like the units that ship with the UV RO systems- mine came with a plastic UV filter that lasted 1 year making me replace it with this one.Also its sized for 1gpm -- about what a RO faucet puts out - we don't need 20 gpm whole house sterilizers when the drinking (and maybe ice cube) water is all we want to sterilize. Whole house water sterilizers are 2-4 feet long and 20-40 watts for 5 GPM and cost $300 and up. This unit is rightsized for the application of RO water.
The fittings included are designed for a compression fit on 1/4" pvc tubing commonly used in ro systems. They are different than the cheap pushin connectors - they have threaded nuts that put a compression on the pipe as they are tightened down. This makes changes easy - if you have ever tried to get a hose out of the press-fit connectors, you find that they go in much easier than they come out even with all the right pliers! I prefer the design of these connectors - they do not leak!
The price, if kept under a benjamin, is right too - no more paying more for the UV tube than for the whole filter. since they use a standard lamp, yearly changeouts are easy. You do not need to open the quartz tube that keeps the HV electric away from the waer. It is a smart design to use a standard lamp in a stainless case. I like to change filters on a 6 mo interval, and the taste filter and UV tube on a yearly basis. It's been a year now, so time to replace filters has come and gone - new ones are on order - and my stock is fine except for the UV system which puts out 30ppm water for a while (and heats up) until its been flushed good - then the real sterile water comes out at 3 ppm (obviously the 3ppm RO water is picking up something from the UV filter right now (a plastic POS that came with the unit for 269 usd. complete) At that price they can't have spent much on the UV section and they did not. The parts are UV proof, yet the light stays on all year long.
Now it's time for a new sterilizer. I picked this one for its tubing connectors, size, easy to change bulb, and 1gpm flow rate (believe me it takes 1 min to fill a gallon jug!) It arrived in a custom molded styrofoam package, not the usual china paperboard box. This is better packaging that most stuff from amazon. Everything worked on the first startup!
