When they arrived I opened the package and was very pleasantly surprised of the quality of the filters. They were the PURENEX brand they seem very sturdy. As far as filtering I suspect they will be fine. I had been using either GE, Culligan or Sears brands in the past at between $3 to 4 a filter these were less than 3/4 the price and from visual and weight aspects they are appear to be as good or better than the other brands. I'll know better in a couple of months after they are in use. We've been using whole house filters for over 20 years.

I live upstate and depend on well water. After shocking our system twice, we still had bacteria in the water. I finally broke down and installed this unit and it worked! It passed the water lab tests and have been very happy with this unit. No more bacteria! Keep in mind you need to replace the UV bulb every year which can run about $70. I got two of these about a month ago they have been used extensively with very bad rusty water and shined brightly.
The taste is a pretty standard purified water flavor, I have not tested it with bleach water "chlorine" but it is supposed to help dramatically.
The one thing to remember is that the filter only works on water that goes trough it your bottle needs to be rinsed to keep rust or other odors out of it.
This model is a squeeze suck style, again not hard to get used to if not familiar.
I highly recommend these and stock them I drink about 90% from them.
My filters are still going strong and I will try to update the review after the 2 months is over.
Price wise I think it is fair much better than buying water plus the waste factor makes them a very attractive product.

A 5 micron filter is really ideal for optimum filtration (lower than 5 micron filters don't seem to last as long and higher micron filters don't seem to perform as well) this filter takes out the "bad stuff" (sediment/iron/whatever) and lasts around the 3 month lifespan a decent filter should.
