I bought these foot comforters for both warmth and comfort. They have met or exceeded my expectations on many fronts including : comfort, warmth, size, ability to walk in them with ease, color, durability (including when laundered), quality, and value. I highly recommend these, but for more detail, please continue reading.COMFORT : After wearing high-heels for 16-hour work days for many years without a problem, I suddenly developed terrible toe pain that came on even when wearing the comfiest flats and sneakers. My feet had suddenly become so sensitive that even the seams in the toes of my fluffy spa socks became irritating. I bought some wonderful Tempur-Pedic Women's Tempur Cloud Booties (for some reason I am unable to put a product link here, but Amazon does sell these, and you can search for them in shoes). Unfortunately my new toe problem was actually exacerbated by these high quality super soft and cozy slippers. Deciding it was the narrow toe box, I searched for an alternative. I considered camp booties and all kinds of other slippers, before deciding on these foot comforters for their WIDE TOE BOX and TRUE MEMORY-FOAM INSOLES. They are, indeed, the most comfortable foot coverings I've ever donned. It is simply not possible for these to bind, rub, or pinch any part of one's foot. They are held on by the loose elastic in the ankle, which is adequate to prevent too much movement of the slipper on the foot.
WARMTH : These are very warm, but not as warm as the Cloud booties mentioned above which in turn are not nearly as warm as real shearling booties (such as LLBean). I live in the Northeast, and am the type of girl who wears at least socks all the time at home for warmth, even during the warmer months. I am not the sort whose feet are so cold as to warrant sleeping in socks, ever. So, on the continuum of cold feet, I'd be in the colder 2/3 of folks I'd say. Most of the time, theses foot comforters are the perfect weight for me, though I have had to swap them out for shearlings on a few very cold days, and I sometimes take them off for ten minutes or so due to overheating. If you've ever slept in one of the earlier generation of Memory Foam Beds (i.e. early Tempur-pedic models), you know that memory foam traps your body heat and feeds it back to you after long periods of contact. In other words, these are pretty warm, but not the warmest slippers around. Notably, the two other warmer slippers I've mentioned are quite a bit pricier.
That said, these slippers met my highest level of expectation. I really fell in love when recognizing some of the other fantastic characteristics which I will address below, but first I need to dispel 3 possible concerns.
SIZE : How can a slipper be one-size-fits-all? I was worried that these might flop around a bit during ambulation create the risk of a fall. I wear a womens' size 7 shoe, which is not really small, but sort of on the small end of the spectrum when trying one-size-fits-all stuff. These are generous enough in the toe, that I can see that they would easily fit a women's 10 if not an 11. And that brings me to the other concern, can I walk around in these?
WALKABILITY : Regardless of size, I worried that a shoe that's only secured at the ankle might be somewhat difficult if not dangerous to walk around while wearing. I wear these all over the house with only a little trepidation on staircases. I wouldn't recommend them for someone with limited mobility who needs to climb even just a few stairs, as this could cause a slip and fall. But for someone with a normal activity level who doesn't constantly go up and down stairs, they are fine for ambulation.
SNOW WHITE SLIPPERS : I don't like navy blue that much, but was a little leery of snowy white shoes. How long would that continue to look nice and fresh? Surprisingly, they are pretty dirt resistant. Let me put that into proper context for you. I had worn these nearly daily, for five to eight hours at a time, for about SIX WEEKS before I noticed that the tips of the toes were slightly dingy. I have mostly hardwood floors with ceramic tile in the bathrooms, kitchen and butler's pantry, and carpet in the bedrooms. The floors are vacuumed and mopped every two weeks with very little spot cleaning between. Thus my house is neither very clean nor very dirty.
Now the unexpected benefits.
DURABILITY : I am continually surprised that these have absolutely no sign of wear after 10 weeks of daily wear. At six weeks, when I noticed that the toes were looking sort of dingy, I removed the Memory Foam inserts, which are easily accessible by zipper, and washed and dried the rest in the machines. They came out perfect, and the light staining was easily removed. The synthetic, "down-like," filling didn't get lumpy.
QUALITY : These are very well-made. The fabrics and foam are of high quality producing a soft hand to both the exterior and interior. The interior is lined by a terry-cloth-like plush that is absorbent (if your feet do sweat from the Memory Foam). Most of the time, though, my feet don't sweat in these.
VALUE : Lots of bang for the buck on these. Compared to other slippers made of such high quality materials, these are definitely less pricey.
So is there anything negative about these at all? I can only think of one feature that ever even bothered me slightly. There is a zipper compartment that holds the Memory Foam insole. This makes laundering and machine drying possible, because you can easily remove the part that could be destroyed by your machines, but it also protects the harder to clean foam part from contacting your feet or the floor. BUT the zipper is on the heel (not the plantar surface the touches the floor, more the area below the ankle) and the pull on said zipper is just long enough to tap the floor as you walk. Again, not enough to hinder mobility, but just enough to make a slightly annoying sound. For me, the sound, which I hardly notice anymore, is not a determining factor in my overall satisfaction with the product.
Disclaimer: Contrary to what this review may seem to indicate, I am not a cold-footed toe-pain whining person living in a filthy house and constantly worrying about falling down the stairs! But I AM pretty wordy, and I do LOVE these slippers. Also, I would NOT buy these for my Grandma, because walking in them could be difficult for someone who already has mobility issues or cause real problems for someone at high risk of severe injury if a fall does occur.
UPDATE June 16, 2013 : I've now had these for 3 months and I wear them for at least a few hours every evening. I've laundered them a few times now, and the filling hasn't shifted or become lumpy. I'm not making any changes to my review, because everything I said still stands. Still pleased as punch with these. No sign of wear yet despite heavy use.
