Crystal Quest portable reverse osmosis system has 10 stages of filtration In the 1st 3rd 5th and 10th stage water flows through a one micron filter pad to remove suspended particles such as silt, sand, sediment, rust (Giardia, Cryptosporidum) and any other un-dissolved matter. The 2nd and 9th stage water flows coconut shell granulated activated carbon to filter out organic contaminants like chlorine, chemicals linked to cancer (THM's benzene), pesticides, herbicides, insecticides, (VOC's), PCB's, MTBE's and hundreds of other chemical contaminants. 4th stage water flows through Crystal Quest reverse osmosis membrane. That removes inorganic chemicals like salts, metals, minerals and most microorganisms. It also removes cryptosporidium and giardia, and most inorganic contaminants. In the 6th and 7th stage, water flows through a KDF 55 and KDF 85 media to remove iron-and hydrogen sulfide. It also remove or reduces heavy metals like lead, mercury, copper, nickel, chromium, cadmium, aluminum and other dissolved metals are removed from your water. KDF media also inhibits bacterial growth throughout the entire unit. This system was easy to setup. It included easy to follow instructions and I managed to get it working in only a few minutes. Pure, great tasting water was ready in a jiffy! Water purification rate is about 1 gallon per hour: I keep rotating and storing two, 1 gallon bottles every day to fill up water and works out perfectly for me.
This system was exactly what I was looking for: a reverse osmosis system, portable and not requiring any cutting and gluing of my existing pipes as I live in an apartment and am not permitted to modify the plumbing. I was hesitant to buy, especially after reading some of the other reviews criticizing the setup which sounded complicated. But I have to say rest assured, setup is very easy and intuitive. Not to mention great tasting reverse osmosis water right in your home.
I did not test the water quality after installation myself, but I believe the numerous reviews around the web praising this system for removing impurities, especially heavy metals and other toxic chemicals. Regular tap water at my place tastes sweetish (probably from lead from the pipes) and smells strongly of chlorine, but the reverse osmosis water from this system has no such obnoxious odors or tastes associated with it, indicating highly pure water that also removes chlorine. I will soon invest in a water-purity indicator and update this review again.
