Product Description
AquaCera® ceramic elements all start with the CerasylTM, a silver impregnated ceramic microfilter. The incorporation of silverlocked within the ceramic structure inhibits the growth of bacteria giving the ceramics self-sterilizing properties and removes theneed for boiling of the filter to remove or kill the impurities within the ceramic pores. The CerasylTM range is then expanded, to add a granular activated coconut shell carbon core for chemical reduction purposes. AquaCera® ceramics do not remove thebeneficial minerals from the water, ensuring the filtered water is enjoyable to drink and yet safe from harmful impurities.0.9 Micron absolute - 100% removal of cysts - 99.99% pathogenic bacteriaChlorine reduction 95% - Organics reduction 95%Cleanable for prolonged life - Silver-impregnated to prevent bacteria growthyou get 1 2" by 7" CeraGrav Filter Element - Cerasyl ceramic outer shell-coconut GAC core
AquaCera CeraGrav LP-5 Replacement Ceramic Candle Filter Review
I bought one of these when I bought the CeraGrav LP-5 Gravity Filter system; it was on Amazon's 'buy together' recommendation, and I thought it'd be nice for a backup. Because of the slowness of the filters, I ended up using this with the two that came with the filter.
This 'replacement' filter comes in a plain white box, with a sticker stating it's a replacement filter. It's whiter than the Doulton's that came with the filter system, and, unlike them (which state they're "Made In England"), these have no text on the pipe end. The washers and plastic seem a bit smaller, but it could be my imagination. The official Doulton filters came in a box listing all the things they filter as well as their model; these don't: I'm not even sure they're 'supersterasyl' ones (beyond the seller stating they are). (For a picture, look at the CeraGrav LP-5 page, where you can see how this is different than the other two in my system.)
I don't know if the differences are merely cosmetic, but I'm less than enthused about not knowing what I'm actually buying, especially when it comes to something this important.
Update: After a month of use, I haven't had any issues --- I haven't gotten sick off the pond water I've been dumping into my cistern, at any rate.
