Please note: this gadget does not, and was never intended to, shut off the water entirely, but rather to provide a small stream for rinsing dishes without splashing and without using up all the hot water. I've had two or three over the last 25 years or so -- the first and longest lasting was made in Italy. This is pretty much a duplicate design, with somewhat lesser materials. The appearance of metal on the spray head is appearance only -- it's just a sort of chrome paint or plate over plastic.

My water is very hard, and the buildup clogs aerator pores and screens. This widget unscrews fairly easily in a couple of places for removing the filter screens, and the whole gadget has withstood being dropped into hot vinegar many times with no harm to anything but its looks. I'm replacing mine because the head cracked from too much pressure when the screens were almost completely obstructed. (The swivel loop shuts off flow above the head, so this doesn't happen when reducing flow.) Despite the crack, there is no leaking. Yet. The gadget can take a lot.

Yes, the pull-down for the sprayer is a bit stiff -- I'm sure the user was expected to hold on to the faucet when pulling the spray head down, which isn't too practical when holding a dish in one hand and a cloth in the other. The only reason I keep buying the sprayer version is that it swivels further (good for washing sink debris into the equally indispensable Progressive Stainless Steel Sink Strainer!

It seems silly to add a flow reducer to a gadget whose whole reason for existing is the little swivel flow reducer, and I could wish that the part that screws into the faucet had been designed better -- it's very hard to get the pliers onto it by anything but the threads. (Be sure to lay out in order and above dog level the various O-rings and washers as you take it apart, or diagram the parts!) I ordered two this time so I can see if I can figure out where the non-negotiable flow reducer is and try drilling it out a bit -- the duplicate in case the idea causes disaster.

This is a great gift for anyone you visit who has an older type of faucet, a slow well, or particularly expensive hot water and a slow brain which can't remember to turn the water to a trickle when rinsing dishes.
