I have been using these for over 20 years now in a developing country where the water is disgusting. It does great at filtering out any sediment, no matter how fine (even quantities of bacteria), before traveling through my UV filter.

PROS: Filters fine, almost flour-like particles. Bacteria appear as a slimy coating when you go to clean it.

CONS: None except, as *all* ceramic candle filters, it is very delicate: set it down hard when cleaning it and you will be looking for another filter candle.

SUGGESTION: Try cleaning it with one of the following:
1) A very fine pot scrubber. (These are white-colored and found in any supermarket.)
2) A jet of water from the garden hose at an almost-flat angle; does a great job and doesn't wear it out, unlike the stiff brushing that the maker suggests.
